From April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (Ministry) conducted a health and safety campaign focused on the competency-based modular training programs for mine and mining plant workers in Ontario.

A Signing Authority is designated by the employer and authorized by the Ministry to be accountable for the quality of training, and maintenance of training records. The Signing Authority is responsible for determining the competency of company employees for modular accreditation.

The campaign checked if training programs for workers and supervisors followed the rules under section 11 of Regulation 854: Mines and Mining Plants. In this webinar, the Ministry and Workplace Safety North (WSN) will discuss the findings from the campaign and share information and resources to help organizations stay compliant with the rules.

These training programs are crucial for health and safety in the mining industry. WSN and the Ministry will also give tips on how organizations can keep improving their training programs.
