Description:

In this webinar, graduate student Nathaniel Barnett discusses his research regarding Indigenous occupational health and safety experiences in several communities in North West Ontario.

Nathaniel reports that:

“Globally there has not been very much research published on Indigenous occupational health and safety. Indigenous
occupational illness and injuries are likely under reported and that is reflected in the limited Canadian research.

This study used a community-based participatory approach to gather information on Indigenous occupational health, safety, and compensation experiences in four Indigenous North Western Ontario communities. The research priorities were:
– identify types of work-related illnesses and injuries
– determine current/future health and safety initiatives and plans
– provide an information session about work-related compensation
– identify occupational health and safety issues of future interest”
