Graduate Student Project. Canada is warming faster than the rest of the world – at more than twice the global rate. As a result, the Canadian climate context has changed dramatically, including more widespread, intense, frequent, and unprecedented weather events, such as the 2021 Western Heat Dome – one of the deadliest weather events in Canadian history. However, as evidenced by the 2021 Western Heat Dome, significant issues remain regarding heat-health messaging in Canada. Therefore, this thesis aims to contribute to the modernization of Canada’s heat-health communication by 1) retrospectively reviewing media-based communications published concerning an extreme heat event, 2) seeking the opinions and perspectives of the public across Canada, and 3) identifying and evaluating current public health agency heat-health guidance documents available in Canada.
