The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated significant and widespread changes in how most people work. The rapid and urgent shift to remote work has forced many people who would not otherwise have had the opportunity or interest to work remotely to do so. Now as workplaces seek to bring employees back to the physical workplace, many are implementing hybrid work models (e.g., 3 days in workplace/2 work from home). Given the newness of these models, little is known as to the impact on workers. This study seeks to understand the experiences of individuals working in hybrid return to work models in various industries to illustrate the potential inclusive benefits of remote work – and to investigate the ways that the in-person workplace and/or hybrid models could be exclusionary and inaccessible. The results will help inform workplaces as they evolve these hybrid models and to remain flexible should another pandemic arise.
