CROSH welcomes all students with an interest in occupational health and safety. Membership is open to students in undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.

Here are six great reasons to consider becoming a student member of CROSH:

    Research Opportunities. Check out some of our research projects to see what inspires you.

    Awards and Funding. Since 2018, we’ve awarded $124,000 in student scholarships. Learn more about awards and funding.

    Internships. In the past five years, our student members have done 75 paid student internships. Learn more about student internships.

    Mentorship from our more experienced graduate students.

    Professional Development and Networking, including attending conferences, doing health and safety outreach, and meeting professional health and safety specialists.

    Student space and community. Our graduate student members can request a desk in our Home Lab in the Ben Avery Building.

As a student member, you can also attend CRafés (CROSH Cafés) in which researchers, students, visiting scholars, and guest speakers give engaging presentations over coffee and treats.

CROSH student member Taryn Thompson spent several days at Glencore’s Fraser Mine this summer sharing the latest CROSH research with workers.

CROSH student members Marie-Eve Morin, Mani Cuza, and Parastou Zerang did CROSH-funded internships with NORCAT. Several CROSH student alumni now work at NORCAT as health and safety professionals.

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming @laurentienneshadlaurentian students to M-CROSH. They engaged in a presentation on heat stress, wearable technology, and grip strength. SHAD, a month-long enrichment program for STEAM students in grades 11 & 12, provides valuable learning experiences. Congratulations to CROSH student member Dawson O’Hara (@dawson.ohara), a 2nd-year masters student in mechanical engineering @laurentianu, on winning the William Shaver Masters Scholarship! An advocate for workplace health and safety, Dawson’s hard work on his thesis, supervised by Dr. Katie Goggins and Dr. Markus Timusk, focuses on developing an instrumented insole. This scholarship is presented to a student whose master’s thesis addresses a critical health and safety issue in the mining sector. Well done, Dawson! ...

Congratulations to CROSH student member Pranil GC who successfully defended his M.Sc. in Computational Sciences last week. Pranil`s thesis was on "Evaluating the effectiveness of VR in a working at height training program: A crossover design experiment." Pranil`s research could ultimately help Ontario workers be more safe when working at heights. Well done, Pranil!

Graduate Student Members

Any graduate student at a recognized post-secondary institution may apply for Graduate Student membership if they agree to:

  • contribute positively to CROSH’s mission;
  • participate in the promotion of CROSH by acknowledging CROSH in research publications and presentations which benefited from CROSH support and partnerships;
  • seek opportunities to collaborate with CROSH researchers including other graduate students;
  • follow the rules governing the use of the CROSH laboratory;
  • accept CROSH’s financial guidelines;
  • attend General Membership meetings; and
  • complete the Annual Renewal and Reporting Form.

How to become a graduate student at Laurentian University

Laurentian University has dozens of world-class graduate programs. Of note, the Human Kinetics PhD and the Masters in Human Kinetics (MHK) have an OHS stream

Undergraduate Student Members
