Become a Student Member
CROSH welcomes all students with an interest in occupational health and safety. Membership is open to students in undergraduate, master’s, and PhD programs.
Looking for a supervisor for grad school? Learn about our Faculty Research Members.
Want to learn about the kind of research our members do? Check out our many health and safety research projects.

Here are six great reasons to consider becoming a student member of CROSH:
- 1
Research Opportunities. Check out some of our research projects to see what inspires you.
- 2
Awards and Funding. Since 2018, we’ve awarded $124,000 in student scholarships. Learn more about awards and funding.
- 3
Internships. In the past five years, our student members have done 75 paid student internships. Learn more about student internships.
- 4
Mentorship from our more experienced graduate students.
- 5
Professional Development and Networking, including attending conferences, doing health and safety outreach, and meeting professional health and safety specialists.
- 6
Student space and community. Our graduate student members can request a desk in our Home Lab in the Ben Avery Building.

As a student member, you can also attend CRafés (CROSH Cafés) in which researchers, students, visiting scholars, and guest speakers give engaging presentations over coffee and treats.
Student Spotlight

CROSH student member Taryn Thompson spent several days at Glencore’s Fraser Mine sharing the latest CROSH research with workers.
CROSH student members Marie-Eve Morin, Mani Cuza, and Parastou Zerang did CROSH-funded internships with NORCAT. Several CROSH student alumni now work at NORCAT as health and safety professionals.

Graduate students Erfan Arbab, Mehdi Tavafi, and Pranil G C had CROSH-funded internships doing virtual reality-related research with Dr. Alison Godwin.

Congratulations to CROSH student members Kailey Beggs, Elizabeth Saraiva and Caden Caputo on being recipients of the 2025 NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award to work on their own research projects throughout the summer. 🎉
Kailey is working under the supervision of Dr Alison Godwin and Dr Katie Goggins exploring how seat adjustment training affects seat-to-head vibration transmissibility during seated vibration exposure. This research can contribute to new understandings around how vibration can impact health and how even small postural changes can impact how vibration is transmitted through the body.
Elizabeth has been working with Dr Katie Goggins focusing on vibration research involving signal alignment and analysis to improve worker health and safety. She has also been working with Brent Lievers using a 3D image processing software (Dragonfly) to implement techniques of identifying the components of the trabecular bone and train an AI model to trace components of the bone. The purpose of this research is to find an efficient way to find volume of bone structure units to better understand bone health especially targeting postmenopausal women.
Under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Dorman and Dr. Alison Godwin, Caden conducted a study examining lactate levels during specific exercise conditions to better understand how physical workloads contribute to worker fatigue, while also testing reliable methods of lactate testing. He additionally worked with Dr. Katie Goggins on projects investigating workplace vibration exposures, contributing to the development of mitigation strategies aimed at reducing health risks for vibration-exposed workers
