CROSH Webinar: Learning from Physiological Demands Research at the International Mine Rescue Competition
In 2016, Sudbury hosted the International Mine Rescue Competition – this once-in-a-lifetime event provided an opportunity to study Mine Rescue teams globally. Twenty-seven teams competed in a real underground mining accident simulation. We collected continuous, real-time physiological data including body temperature in roughly 60% of the participants throughout the 2 hour simulation. This research will directly respond to recommendations from the Ministry of Labour’s ‘Mining Health and Safety Prevention Review’: the need to understand and develop fitness requirements for Canadian Mine Rescue workers and develop novel methods to manage and prevent heat stress incidents during a mine rescue. Presented by Dr. Sandra Dorman.
